Issue #4 — Writing an About Section That Gets You Noticed
5 minute read · Every Tuesday
Hey — this week we are talking about the About section. It is the most underused part of a student LinkedIn profile, and it is often the part that does the most work when a recruiter lands on your profile.
This week's tip
The 3-part About section structure
Open with something specific. Summarise your experience in 2–3 sentences. Close with where you are heading and what you are looking for. That's it. Under 300 words, first person, no personal statement.
Student example
“I study Politics and International Relations at Bath Spa, with a focus on UK foreign policy. I run the Political Debates Society — 120 members, six-person committee. Currently applying for public policy internships for summer 2025.”
44 words. Specific. Actionable. Done.

Who It's From
Tom Archbold
I study Entrepreneurship at Bath Spa University. I started Hireable because I spent my first two years at university not knowing how to communicate what I had done. When I finally figured out how to frame my experience — society leadership, part-time work, university projects — everything changed.
The newsletter is practical, not generic. I write about what has worked, what has not, and what I wish someone had told me earlier. No motivation content, no inspirational quotes — just useful things for students trying to figure out the career side of university.
